President's International Research Awards 2017

Four faculty members will receive IU President’s International Research Awards to undertake major research efforts that make use of IU Gateway Offices and involve collaboration with IU’s partners and colleagues abroad.
Kan Shao, assistant professor of environmental health in the IUB School of Public Health will undertake a three-year project advancing human health risk assessment to support environmental policy making: Probabilistic Risk Assessment to Enhance Risk-Based Decision Making for Food Safety Regulation in China: A Case Study of Inorganic Arsenic in Rice.
Faridah Pawan, IUB professor of literacy, culture, and language education,, will also undertake a program with the China Gateway. Her two-year project, based on her extensive background in ESL/EFL teacher education, explores English Language Education and Teacher Preparation among Chinese Minority Populations.
Alvin Rosenfeld, chair of Jewish studies and professor of English at IUB, will undertake a year-long project with the Europe Gateway on Syrian Refugees in Germany: Antisemitism, Islamism, and Integration.
Steven Mannheimer, professor of media arts and science at the IUPUI School of Informatics and Computing, will undertake a year-long effort through the university’s India Gateway. He will extend his work with the blind and visually impaired on two sides of the globe with his project, In Touch with Knowledge: Exploring Innovative Concerpts in Tactile and Audio Graphics in India and Indiana.
